Lack of medical staff and places for sick: Dnipropetrovsk region got into the 2d wave of coronavirus pandemy

Head physician of Dnipropetrovsk regional Hospital after Mechnikov (Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk Region) Sergey Ryzhenko informs about growing level of morbidity with COVID-19.

Lack of medical staff and places for sick: Dnipropetrovsk region got into the 2d wave of coronavirus pandemy

According to him Dnipropetrovsk Region has totally fallen into the second wave of coronavirus pandemy.

“Nowadays there are 65 persons in the special COVID-department, 13 of them are in resuscitation, six patients are taking mechanical ventilation. It is obvious that we have fallen into the second wave of coronavirus pandemy”, - Sergey Ryzhenko says.

Head physician accents at the problem of the lack of medical staff. Mr. Ryzhenko tells that nowadays all surgeons are studying protocols of operating with COVID-19 patients.

“People who work daily in COVID-department are more than tired. If the situation develops this way we may get a lack of hospitals. Nowadays we’re working on both widening space for the sick and making arrangements with doctors. Everyone has family. At the same time the number of medicals infected is growing”, - Sergey Ryzhenko notes.

He adds that the Hospital's laboratory has made about 12 000 tests for COVID-19, 3000 of these were made in PCR method (polymerase chain reaction).  According to Sergey Ryzhenko, 600 units of tests showed positive results, most of these had been taken from citizens of Dnipro city.

He stressed that people of 60+ age must be especially careful because the belong to the foreground group of risk.
